Helping people buy and sell homes is in my blood.
I bring four generations of real estate experience and expertise to every file I touch. I provide unrivaled client service to all my friends and neighbors in the Saint John and Kennebecasis Valley areas.
Both my grandfather and great grandfather were pioneers in this business. They developed reputations as intelligent, trustworthy business partners, always working for the best interest of their clients. I pride myself on living up to that legacy. My father Carl Sherwood, built and co-owned Atlantic Canada’s largest real estate company, Royal LePage Atlantic – and has been an icon in local real estate over the past 40 years. As for my mother Marcia Sherwood, she has always been one of the top Realtors® in the city, and was deeply respected by her clients, peers and family for her tireless work ethic, knowledge of the city and market, her smile and her positive attitude. Everyone loves Marcia! Though I keep Marcia retained for consultation and some behind the scenes work, she is very happily retired since the fall of 2014. I’m proud to build on my parent’s successes and deliver a quality of client service and attention that’s all my own.
When I was about 10 years old, a family friend asked me what I wanted to do when I grew up. Without hesitation, I replied, “I have to get into real estate. Someone needs to carry on the family business.” It made for a good laugh at the time, and though there was never any pressure to join the family business, I began gravitating toward this life since my early 20s.
After high school, I spent a couple of years in Alberta in the service industry. But I quickly realized how much I missed the east coast. So I returned home to take the Business Marketing program at NBCC, where I exceled and was awarded a scholarship for academic performance. To pay the bills, I started a lawn-care company and looked after signage for my family’s real estate company.
After graduation in 1999, I got my real estate license and have enjoyed working full-time in the business ever since. I have had the pleasure of being involved in thousands of real estate transactions, and continue to learn with every single one. I’ve been winning awards for production and service in the business since my first year in 1999 as a sales associate. I went back to real estate school and got my ‘broker’s license’ in 2002, and have been taking continuing education courses every year since. I was chosen to sit on the discipline committee at the provincial level, and have very much enjoyed the opportunity to be involved in that process and do my part to ensure consumer’s interests are well protected.
I am the proud father of two beautiful sons, Owen (ten) and Parker (seven), and we enjoy spending as much time together as possible – whether it’s boating or spending time at the family cottage, skiing, sliding, four-wheeling, building lego projects, jumping on the trampoline, just goofing around or hard manual labor. (Yep – all three of us actually enjoy yard-work.) When I’m not with the boys, you can find me feeding my Crossfit addiction, running, listening to music, cooking or reading a good book.
I’m lucky to work in this business. After all, it’s all about helping people and families find a place to call home. I still love “talking shop” with mom and dad, and I’m very fortunate to have worked alongside them both for over 15 years. Who knows… maybe one or both of my boys may want to get into the business and be the 5th generation!
